Job Title:                        Clinical Nurse Manager

Responsible to:                Home Manager

Accountable to:                Operations Manager

Liases with:                        Deputy Manager

Minimum Qualifications:        RGN/RMN
                                Experience of Continuing care of the Elderly

Job summary:        The post holder is recognised as a Clinical Nurse Manager within the group. He/she will have direct clinical involvement in, and extensive knowledge of Continuing Care of the Elderly, and have evidence of post-basic education and a commitment to professional development. The post holder will provide a resource facility by having knowledge of current research and offering clinical supervision and support to other staff.

Outline of duties:

•        Liaise with primary nurses and offer assistance/advice regarding the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care in relation to residents’ individual needs.

•        Contribute to the development of the Home’s Philosophy and promote the aims of individual personal care.

•        Liaise with medical and para-medical staff and attend review meetings where appropriate.

•        Provide a focus for the development of a clinical supervision model.

•        Communicate effectively within the Home on Clinical and other issues.

•        Take responsibility for the management of the clinical areas with the aim of setting and maintaining the highest possible standards.

•        To manage al resources effectively, including manpower, clinical products and being aware of wastage.

•        In the absence of Home Manager and Deputy, be in charge of the Home and participate in the ‘on call’ rota as required.

•        Ensure that trained staff comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

•        Contribute as a counsellor and advisor to support workers and other staff on matters relating to Care of the Elderly.

•        Maintain the highest possible professional image of the Home within the Community.

•        Provide teaching sessions for nursing staff on specific professional issues.

•        Act as an educational resource for newly appointed staff.

•        Act as a mentor and provide clinical supervision as required.

•        Through the performance appraisal mechanism, identify own learning own learning needs and set objective appropriately.

•        Act as a change agent in developing innovative practices in relation to client care.

•        Develop a research culture within the Home, by encouraging staff to read and utilise current research.

Participate with the Quality Assurance Team in evaluating the overall effectiveness of services delivered.
